The first Major League Baseball game hosted at the Field of Dreams cornfield in Dyersville was played. The Chicago White Sox beat the New York Yankees, 9–8. The field surrounded by corn that was built for the movie was not used due to that it was not up to Major League Baseball standards and to do so would have permanently altered major features of the property and destroying its movie authenticity. A separate baseball facility suitable for Major League Baseball was built 500 feet away.
