Wilhelmina Jakes and Carrie Patterson sat down in the whites-only section of a segregated bus in Tallahassee, Florida.  When they refused to move, the Tallahassee police arrested both blacks, charging them with “placing themselves in a position to incite a riot.”  A boycott was organized and lasted through December 1956 when the U.S. Supreme Court ruled against segregation of transportation.
