Susan B. Anthony and Matilda Joslyn Gage disrupted the official Centennial Celebration at Independence Hall in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, by presenting the “Declaration of Rights of the Women of the United States” to the acting Vice President Thomas W. Ferry. After they left the building, the women scattered copies of the document to the assembled group of people. Afterwards, Susan B. Anthony read the women’s demands.
