President John F. Kennedy was shot and killed while riding in a motorcade in Dallas, Texas. Texas Governor John B. Connally, in the same car as the president, was seriously wounded. A suspect, Lee Harvey Oswald, was captured. Vice President Lyndon B. Johnson was sworn in as the 36th president.
