The New York Titans hired Weeb Ewbank as head coach and, on the same day, they changed their name to the Jets. Ewbank had recently been fired from the Baltimore Colts. Five years later his New York Jets would upset those same Baltimore Colts in Super Bowl III, the game that legitimized the AFL.
