Over a period of 4-days, United States veterans from the Vietnam War marched in protest in Washington, D.C., an event organized by Operation Vietnam Veterans Against the War (VVAW) and dubbed Dewey Canyon III. Many events took place, including 800 veterans individually tossed their medals, ribbons, discharge papers and other war mementoes on the steps of the U.S. capitol, rejecting the Vietnam War and the significance of those awards.
